Obituary for Sharon Earlene Armstrong
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that a donation be made in Sharon's honor to the American Cancer Society.
Sharon Earlene Armstrong was born February 9, 1952, in Sanford, Florida to the late Mary Davis-Dunson and Earl Armstrong.
From childhood and later into her adult life, Sharon was an avid reader and a great inquisitor of life. She loved poetry and all genres of literature. Traveling to new places whether through books or in real life, engaging in rigorous and robust conversations about our world, while living a life filled with discovery is how best to characterize her. She lived her life to the fullest!
Graduating from Deland Senior High School in 1972 with honors, she attended Stetson University before beginning her military career. Staff Sergeant Sharon Earlene Armstrong served honorably in the United States Army from June 10, 1975 to March 7, 1988.
She completed her Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and attended her Military Schooling at Fort Gordon, Georgia where she became a Communications-Electronics Repair Technician. Her other duty assignments and travels included places such as Augsburg Germany, Fort Hood, Texas and Giessen, Germany.
Sharon’s Military awards and decorations consist of the Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Commendation Medal, The Army Good Conduct Medal, 4th award, and Marksman Badge with M16 Rifle Bar.
Service to others was always of the utmost imperative, and after her military life, she continued that conviction. She was a member of and attended Abundant Harvest Ministries in Winter Garden, Florida. Sharon worked as a dispatcher for the Florida Highway Patrol stationed in Deland, Florida and later as a customer service specialist for Frontier Communications Inc. until her passing.
On Wednesday, July 1, 2020 the Lord called her home to be with him and enjoy his loving peace and eternal rest.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her stepfather, Reverend Charles Dunson, her sister, Alexandria Armstrong, and brothers, Anthony Armstrong and Loren Dunson.
Sharon leaves her cherished memories and legacy to her son, Stefan Armstrong, DeLand, FL; grandson; Jared Armstrong, Daytona Beach, FL; five(5) siblings; Phyllis Williams, Syracuse, NY; Brian Dunson (Anne), Dallas, TX; Chartres Matthews (Ellis), Deland, FL; Monique Delaney (Kenneth), Valdosta, GA; Angela Layne (Lynford), Palm Coast, FL; her Abundant Harvest Ministries family; and a host of extended family, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
