Obituary for Deacon Lorin Dorsey
Deacon Lorin Dorsey was born July 13, 1937 to the parents of the late Allen Burke Dorsey and Essie Mae Dean. To this union five children were born all lived in Webster, Florida (Sumter County). Some years later Essie Mae Dean met and married the late Willie S. Bill Dean from this union one son Willie Dean of St. Petersburg, Florida. He attended Mills High School, Webster, Florida. He retired from the Sumter County Road Bridge Department, Bushnell, Florida.
He served as a Junior Deacon in his youth and later ordained as a Deacon at Beulah Baptist Church serving under Pastor Eli Jackson. He and his family served under Rev. R. J. Boone, Rev. Willie M. Mason, Rev. Clarence Southall, Jr., Rev. Nathaniel Shazler, and most recently, Pastor Alex Linzy, Jr. In September, 2012, Deacon Lorin Dorsey’s health began to fail and he transitioned from his earthly home on January 11, 2013. His body was tired and now he’s resting, his spirit will live forever.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Graylin Dorsey and Calvin Smith, three brothers, Archie, Cleveland and Joseph Dorsey: five stepbrothers, Willie, Raymond, Burke, Herbert, and J.B. Dorsey; four stepsisters, Lottie Mobley, Lulla Mae, Ora Mae Davis, Clara Dorsey, and one niece, Eunice Williams.
He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted and loving wife of 55 1/2 years Sister Cora Dorsey, sons: Lorin Dorsey, Jr., Michael Dorsey, Terry Dorsey (Ruth), Timmy Dorsey (Shamonica) and Mark Dorsey, Texas; daughters: Deborah Youngblood, Viola Dorsey, Joyce Conyer (Theodore) and Gloria Dorsey-Jackson (June); brothers, Marshall Dorsey, (Mary) and Lt. Col. (Ret.) Willie Dean (Danell); aunt: Queen Powell, brothers-in-law: Randell Smith (Julia), Andrew Smith (Anne) Willine Porter, sisters-in-law: Ethel McGree, Ohio, Mercede Dorsey, and Sharon Dorsey Robinson.
Grandchildren: Eric Hill, Joseph Youngblood, A.J. Bryant (Jennifer), Randy Dorsey, Lorin Dorsey, III, Ricky Tenerio, Michelle Youngblood, Latasha Kennerson, Jaklem Jackson, Tamika Dorsey, Chantel Dorsey (Jeff), Dana Dorsey (Derrick), Johanna Dell, Glady Conyer, and Cora Conyer, Jarvis Dorsey, Candance King, Randell King, Samatha Cobarris, Samone Cabarris, Tabares Cobarris and Jackson Davis, great grandchildren: Derrick Ivory, Jr., and Quan Ivory, JaKayia Hambrick and Jahzara, Zion Thomas and Caleb Thomas, special friends: Theodis Williams and James Bryant and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
